Johnston Hall’s Midnight Walk

Johnston Hall’s stone tower is the University of Guelph’s best-known landmark. Situated on the west side of campus and overlooking one of the most popular hangout spots and recreational sports fields known as Johnston Green, this building perfectly represents the campus life that we all have come to love and cherished.

During the creative process, I wanted to replicate Johnston Hall's architecture while re-imagining how it would feel like to walk through campus once again. The idea of walking down memory lane inspired me to capture the peacefulness of a midnight walk, which I do hope will allow others to fill in their own stories and memories they have on this campus.

Community Art Inspiration

Art Etc. is a welcoming space in Guelph that provides community members an opportunity to engage in art projects, enjoy a good lunch and each other's company. We partnered with four Art Etc. artists to provide us inspiration for this project.

“Every Cherry tree has a story... Throughout Japan, the Cherry, or 'Sakura' tree is representative of good fortune, new beginnings and revival. I just love the beauty. Standing out. And the trees are outside Standing Out. She is surrounded in green . Yet she stands out in Pink.”

The Arboretum drawing by Judy will be featured on a special set of postcards for the Arboretum!

University of Guelph Sign

Created by Sarah.

“I chose to draw/colour the University of Guelph welcome sign because I believe that it should be a warm and welcoming environment for all students. Also I like how the architecture is well thought out in the sign with the colors.”
